My lab studies soils as integrated systems, linking pore-scale architecture to biogeochemical processes including carbon cycling, microbial activity, and root-microbiome interactions. A central question driving our work is how the physical arrangement of pores, particles, and interfaces governs system-level soil functioning. We combine high-resolution imaging, spectroscopy, and spatially resolved biogeochemical approaches to study intact soils across scales, from individual pores to agricultural fields.
