Polymers are long-living materials, yet we use them for applications which end significantly before the material’s lifetime. Our research focuses on understanding and adapting polymer’s lifetime in different applications. We study how polymers degrade and how that affects their properties. We change the polymer structure to affect their properties and adapt their chemistry to address lifetime concerns. Work in our group typically involves polymer synthesis and characterization, followed by different kinetic studies focusing on the (mechano)chemical reaction that lead to their degradation.
