Islamic art history and art of the Modern Middle East. My research focusses on Egyptian caricatures, cartoons, and comics from the modern period (1880s-1940s). My current research project draws on emotions as a conceptual framework, as itseeks to examine how cartoonists utilised emotions, through both language and images, as a procedure of subject-formation.
