Alfonta Lab studies bioelectrochemical systems and bacterial protein translation using synthetic biology tools. One major tool in the lab is genetic code expansion (incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins) which we further develop but also use as a tool for our bioelectrochemical systems and to improve our basic knowledge of proteins translation in bacteria.
