I am a cultural and intellectual historian of early modern Europe, focusing mainly on England (though I often venture to Italy and the Low Countries to make better sense of it). My research explores the history of cognition—especially what “cognitive history” might mean—and draws on book history for insight. I’m eager to discuss anything early modern with prospective or current students and postdocs, especially those interested in early modern England, book history, education, the reception of the Classics, Renaissance scholarship, and capitalism.
