I am a geobiologist and oceanographer, expert on foraminifera: single cell marine organisms, that are highly diverse and abundant in all parts of the oceans. They are among the most ancient and abundant fossils and their shells made up of the mineral Calcite are accumulated in mass quantities in oceanic sediments and thus become one of the most important components marine archive. As unicellular organisms with short life and reproductive cycles, they are extremely sensitive to long and short-term changes on both global and local scales, including global warming.
