We’re interested in revealing how the olfactory system extracts information from the environment to guide behavior. To this end, we combine behavioral approaches, electrophysiological recordings in vivo and in vitro, and computational modeling, with a focus on several specific aspects of olfaction. 1) How is information extracted about odors in complex environments? 2) How do the uniquely tight links between olfactory brain regions and the amygdala support the functional links between olfaction and emotion? 3) How does the olfactory system cope with developmental abnormalities?
