My team studies interfacial phenomena in emulsions and phase transitions in colloidal suspensions, employing optical and cryoTEM microscopy, x-ray and light scattering, optical tweezing, and other experimental methods. Currently, our research focuses on the self-faceting of liquid emulsion droplets. This highly counterintuitive phenomenon, discovered by our team, is at the convergence point of such remote fields as 2D crystallography, thin-plate elasticity, interfacial energetics, and mathematical topology, with important implications for bio-morphogenesis and nanotechnology.
