We are studying coherent quantum dynamics on the atomic length and time scale. Coherence is at the heart of ultrafast electronic processes in atomic, molecular and solid systems and evolves on the attosecond time scale. Fast decoherence and picometer to nanometer length scales make the direct observation of coherent dynamics challenging. Therefore we require extremely high spatial and temporal resolving power for the observation of those phenomena. In our new lab, we are developing new approaches to achieve exactly that – simultaneous spatial and temporal imaging of electronic wave functions.
