I am an expert on cross-linguistic differences in reading, and on statistical learning. My scientific work focuses on the cognitive operations and the neurobiological underpinning of reading in different languages, and on the computations involved in learning statistical regularities in sensory input. In the context of a steady flow of highly cited papers, my most important contribution to the field has been to offer novel and influential theoretical perspectives that had a substantial impact on reading and statistical learning research over the last three decades.
